Researchers from Florida State and Brown Universities have analyzed census data to compile a list of the country’s most segregated cities, accompanied by maps showing which neighborhoods are the most segregated. Detroit, MI, is No. 1, followed by Milwaukie, WI, and New York, NY. Is your hometown on this list? Ta-nehisi Coates has been exploring this recently on his blog on the Atlantic site, demonstrating how public policy led to much of the segregation that we still see today. Here’s what he posted this morning, which gives lots of good resources, if this is a strong area of interest:
