Pranksters–or thieves–have taken figures of Jesus from 8 separate nativity scenes in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Trinity Episcopal Church, in Easton, PA, has asked that their Jesus–missing since Christmas Eve–be returned with no questions asked.
Spokesperson for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, Jim Goodness, released a statement about how they are handling thefts from Catholic churches:
“It is a police matter. We’ve asked all the parishes to report it to police. It certainly is very distressing that is taking place at this time of year. Our hope is that this is nothing more than a prank. We are hoping police will find out who is doing this.”
Lehigh Valley Live has an article linking to other stories of the regional thefts.

Maybe some body is trying to make a point about how missing Jesus is from much of Christmas, more Santanalia than Sanctus.
Many did not notice until after Christmas Eve as tradition does not put the baby in until then.
