Power Name

Power Name

by Phyllis J. Everette, St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Annapolis Maryland

When we are given a name we become

The baby’s name is the newborn

In the moment of name giving – a unique soul

Names have power

Names are power

The name grows and transforms

Time gives life and purpose to the soul

In experience the name becomes more

Names have power

Names are power

The name adapts itself as it accepts

The soul envelops the days, the nights

Situation refines the Name-soul

Names have power

Names are power

Oversoul; Soul of Eternity; Soul of Grace

Possessor of the Name

Transformer of all names

Names have power

Names are power

Name-Giver names the souls:

Beloved, Embraced, Nurtured,

Partnered, Perceived, Guided

Names have power

Names are power

Names transform; the Name-Giver does this

Transcended are circumstance, experience

Soul-name is reborn; renamed by God

Names have power

Names are power

The Episcopal Café seeks to be an independent voice, reporting and reflecting on the Episcopal Church and the Anglican tradition.  The Café is not a platform of advocacy, but it does aim to tell the story of the church from the perspective of Progressive Christianity.  Our collective sympathy, as the Café, lies with the project of widening the circle of inclusion within the church and empowering all the baptized for the role to which they have been called as followers of Christ.

The opinions expressed at the Café are those of individual contributors, and, unless otherwise noted, should not be interpreted as official statements of a parish, diocese or other organization. The art and articles that appear here remain the property of their creators.
