Let’s help CNN correct and improve its Episcopal Church Fast Facts.
What would you change about the timeline CNN lays out? It includes:
October 17, 2003 – The U.S. Episcopal Church will risk a break with the Anglican Church if it allows the consecration of an openly gay bishop in its New Hampshire diocese, says the president of the American Anglican Church. Rev. Canon David Anderson said the diocese’s decision to go forward with the consecration – after Anglican primates released a statement saying they “deeply regret” such an action – was unfortunate.
This quote from Anderson, who turned out to be wrong, is the only quote in the time. So, I’d start there.

“The Anglican Church originated when King Henry VIII split from the Roman Catholic Church in 1534, when the pope refused to grant the king an annulment.” Usual stuff about Anglicans emerging fully formed from the brow of Henry, with no consideration of the previous 1000+ years of history, most of it somewhat distant from Rome.
Not to be snarky, but this tells us what we already know about most TV news organizations. Clearly their timeline would tell the informed very little. What it tells the informed is not about TEC but about CNN — and it’s what we already know about CNN.
They’re shallow and don’t really understand the subject matter. They throw what resources they do have at “breaking news” or “OJ trial like topics” which they churn over and over.
What a ridiculous list of “fast facts” about TEC! Was the list dictated by Rupert Murdoch? It’s hard to know where to begin, but the 16th century might be a good place.
