According to an article in the Washington Post, the justices on the current Supreme Court are the most vocal about their religious backgrounds as any in history.
This could have bearing on the cases before them, including the one scheduled for tomorrow, which challenges the Affordable Care Act on the basis of concerns that providing healthcare coverage for a woman’s contraception violates an employer’s religious freedom. The case is being brought by the craft store chain Hobby Lobby.
“Much attention has been given to the religious makeup of the current edition of the Roberts court. With six Catholics and three Jews, it is the first without a Protestant member. But in what is likely the signature case of the term, the issue is not affiliation, but devotion.”
