The Rev. Canon E. Mark Stevenson has been appointed Canon for Ministry Within the Episcopal Church, a role on the Presiding Bishop’s staff.

Stevenson has served as the executive director of Episcopal Migration Ministries since 2016 and served on the Presiding Bishop’s staff as Domestic Poverty Missioner from 2013-2016, a role in which he was responsible for the Episcopal Church’s work focusing on “Anglican Mark of Mission 4, The transformation of unjust structures of society.”  Before joining the Presiding Bishop’s staff in 2013, he served as Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of Louisiana.

In his new role of Canon for Ministry Within the Episcopal Church, Stevenson will serve as a pastoral and theological advisor, will help prepare for House of Bishops meetings and do preparation work for visitations by the Presiding Bishop.  He will also oversee the work of Youth, Formation, Transition, and Young Adult Ministries programs.

In a press release by the Episcopal Church, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry stated:

“I am truly delighted that the Reverend Canon Mark Stevenson has accepted our call to serve as canon for ministry within the Episcopal Church…Canon Mark has a long and proven track record as a canon to bishops, a skilled manager and administrator, and as a wise and generous colleague to many. Above all he is a devout follower of Jesus of Nazareth.”

Stevenson will assume his new role on September 1 and will continue working out of the Episcopal Church offices in New York City.
