‘Big Rich Texas’ maven offers baptism tips

by

The third season of the Style Network’s reality show “Big Rich Texas” launched last month, and lest we assume that the country club set doesn’t have a spiritual side, Leslie, one of the show’s stars, offers tips for a stylish baptism in this video (and she’s not joking):

It may be harder for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into Heaven, but apparently you don’t have to get soaked in dirty church holy water trying. (Godmother Leslie, didjya think to invite a preacher who could maybe incorporate some actual prayers into this fabulous pool party)? Oy,

The "baptee" herself was looking a little boobalicious, herself.

I wish more parishes had facilities for adult baptisms (although I did see one competently done at the University Catholic Center at UT that involved one if those big zinc-lined wash/bath- tubs). I also wish we baptized infants by immersion, like the Orthodox do most of the time. Westerners seem to be pretty clumsy about it, though, and there have been one or two drownings in the past.

". . the cake is the centerpiece of the room?"

At least there was a trinity of doves.

I'm glad that she didn't rule out church baptisms entirely.

My favorite thing about it all was the new word "baptee."

This video is a hoot. Have not been so amused for a while. It's not a real problem we face with adult baptisms (but infant baptisms sometimes can get out of control due to family dynamics, no?).

While the rites of baptism and marriage don't compare, I do wonder why we have allowed (some) church weddings to be over the top. One answer you hear is that we don't want to turn people away.

What if an adult wanted a Big Rich Texas baptism? Would you say no? Who are we to say no? Is that aboundary we should set, and why?

(Yay!! I can sign in again!!)

I haven't been able to watch the video because we barbaric Canadians apparently lack the sophistication to deal with it, but the comments suggest it's ever bit as appalling as it appears.
