In response to the United States Senate’s vote to pass S. 744, the Senate’s immigration reform legislation, Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori and Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Presiding Bishop Mark S. Hanson have issued the following joint statement.
Jonathan Capehart of the Washington Post says that “Obama was direct and clear in espousing American values to the people of Africa. That he is African American only adds to their weight and power.”
The Bishops of Province IV, meeting at Grace Episcopal Church in Charleston, SC, heard stories of faith and struggle from continuing members of the Episcopal Church in South Carolina. The Bishops responded with a letter of support.
