The quest for a small pure Church continues

From The

A preschooler is caught in the middle of a fight between religion and sexuality. Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, in Boulder, has refused to readmit a preschooler because the child has two moms. Her parents are lesbians.

“God and Jesus would not allow discrimination in that way,” said Joellen Raderstorf, one of about two dozen demonstrators who turned out at Sunday’s church service.

Most of the protesters stood silently, across the street, holding signs. One read “God loves all people.”

‘God and Jesus’ is an odd construction.

I wonder if the answer to Ms. Raedersdorf’s question about the difference between refusing admission to a same-sex couple but not to a child with divorced parents or those using birth control is visibility.

A preschool-age child would not necessarily know which of his or her peers have divorced parents– and, obviously, would have no reason to entertain questions of contraception. But even (especially?) a young child may be confused if a classmate has two parents of the same sex.

Aside from this, I note that the ABC7 story says in the opening line that the school has refused to “re-admit” the child. Did the child attend there previously without incident? What changed, I wonder, between the (apparent) initial enrollment and the decision not to re-admit the child?

It seems there’s room for an enterprising local reporter to do a bit more digging into the circumstances here.

Have you wondered if the school/parish/diocese is policing the sins of all the other parents too? How many of those folks are married and divorced for starters? Along with that, why would good Christian people punish an innocent child for that child’s parent’s “sins”? I wrote the principal of the school, the pastor and the Archdiocese of Denver. Feel free to do the same.

What changed? Some homophobic RC bigot of an official got wind of what was going on.

Yes, it does seem rather silly that we get angry that the RC big shots do exactly what we know they’ll do. How about this: we contact the press in Boulder and welcome that child and the parents to the Episcopal Church and one of our day care centers?
