The Rev. Phyllis Edwards, first woman deacon dies at 92
The Rev. Phyllis Edwards, the Episcopal Church's first woman deacon, died in Forks, WA of age-related causes. She was 92. Edwards was a civil rights activist who marched with Martin Luther King Jr. and fought for the ordination of women in the Episcopal Church. She was ordained by Bishop Pike.

Dot Fuller of California says that Edwards served at St. Aidan's, in San Francisco.
Formerly with St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Port Angeles, she was affiliated with St. Swithin's in Forks at the time of her death. Services will be held July 24, 1 p.m., memorial in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles. The Right Rev. Greg Rickel will officiate.
