Obamas find a church home (or not)

Updated: with Not so fast:

Contrary to published reports, President Obama and the First Family have not decided to make Evergreen Chapel at Camp David their primary place of worship in the Washington area.

“The President and First Family continue to look for a church home. They have enjoyed worshipping at Camp David and several other congregations over the months, and will choose a church at the time that is best for their family,” Deputy White House Press Secretary Jennifer Psaki said in a statement.

Time Magazine is reporting this morning that the Obama family has finally settled on a new church home in the Washington area. Surprisingly, they've decided on the same congregation that President G W Bush chose - a military chaplaincy attached to Camp David. The congregation is called "Evergreen Chapel".

"A number of factors drove the decision — financial, political, personal — but chief among them was the desire to worship without being on display. Obama was reportedly taken aback by the circus stirred up by his visit to 19th Street Baptist in January. Lines started forming three hours before the morning service, and many longtime members were literally left out in the cold as the church filled with outsiders eager to see the new President. Even at St. John's, which is so accustomed to presidential visitors that it is known as the 'Church of the Presidents,' worshippers couldn't help themselves from snapping photos of Obama on their camera phones as they walked down the aisle past him to take communion."

I guess it bodes well for the popularity of the First Family, but gee whiz, has the Cult of the Personality really replaced worship of the Lord? Even by those who are regular attendees of a particular church?

Really. Weren´t these folks raised in Betty Crocker households (or in and around Beverly Hills or Manhattan)?

One NEVER acts out/or even blinks when they notice they are sitting next to Betty Davis at Chasens and/or moves their head quickly when Cary Grant is close by at Hollywood Park Races and for Heaven sake ignore the fact that Rock Hudson is directly behind you at the water fountain at the Premiere of Pillow Talk...Barbra Streisand at Gelsons...on and on it goes, places everyone, know your places everyone! What´s the world coming to, things were different when Eisenhower and Kennedy were President and my best friend was a child actor and Gidget thrived!
