Hate is hate no matter the cause

The Bilerico Project discusses the problem with confronting hate with more hate and how there is a better way.

Hmm... seems like we have heard that before:

Hate is hate no matter whose side it's coming from. In fact, I can not see the love from "our side" from this NOM video as their t-shirts ask. Here is a video that the anti-gay group NOM produced. Here's how we fell into their trap.
....
When we go to anti-gay NOM events and scream in their faces we harm all of us! I sure as heck don't like it when "they" scream in my face. Nor would I want "them" blocking our presentations. We need to respect their free speech rights and be peaceful examples of love.

I ask that you deeply consider what it means to be a love warrior. To me it means not only standing up for love, but standing with love in my heart as Dr. King, Ghandi, and Harvey would have us do.
....
It sounds crazy, but it's exhilarating! Be love, there is nothing more powerful. A real love warrior leads from the heart! But sadly, I have had the experience of our own people, angry beyond measure, scream in my face too for being peaceful or asking them to choose to be peaceful, elegant, calm, respectful, unmovable, determined, confident, but not raging militants. That's what Ghandi did and that's what Dr. King did and that's what changes the world. You are either your message of love or you are not and that's what will hurt or help your family

If you're going to be a Love Warrior* like Mohandas Gandhi, please start by spelling his name correctly? {Argh}

If you are going to read this, read all of it, especially the comments, because the comments from folks who were at the rallies have a much different take than the Davina person who wrote this based on a video from the opposition and not actually having been there.

As was more than evident in the NOM video and from the comments, the guys with the rainbow of umbrellas were standing at the periphery of the NOM demonstration, and this hispanic pawn in the video was sitting with three kids quite a distance from the back of the NOM pack.

Where Davina sees guys appearing as prison guards, I see some queer boys in T-shirts with multicolored umbrellas. I dare say not very intimidating to most rational folks.

And Davina cannot see the similarity between the Angels at Matthew Sheperd's funeral and the umbrella boys. Where has she been over the years. We all know that the role of the angels was to do exactly the opposite of what Davina says was their purpose. The angels, with their big wings, stood directly in front of the hate protesters outside of the church and blocked the Sheperd family's view of these idiots. If you intend to draw on our own history Davina, make sure you know of which you speak, and do not turn the truth on its head.

This is not the first time Davina has been on what I would say was the wrong side of an issue. She reeks of Concern Troll a little too often!

I still think the point is valid - even if this event was not as she perceived it and whether or not she can spell. To often it is easy to take the path of those who hate and return hate to them.

I agree with you Ann, 100%.

It is just that this is not the person to make the point because the example she tries to cite is not the example of which she speaks because she does not know of which she speaks because she was not there. She is relying on a falsehood in a video edited by the "other side."

I too am embarrassed when folks from "our side" lose their cool and begin to behave badly, shouting and using bad language. That is hate for hate, not this false example she tries to use.
