Sequestration: effects in your community?

Most of today's news programs are all about the "sequester" - the automatic cuts in the US budget. NPR discussed it this morning:

And here:

One result of looming lack of funds has resulted in undocumented immigrants being freed from detention. Twin Cities Daily Planet reports:

In an under-the radar-move to prepare for federal budget cuts scheduled to kick in Friday, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials are releasing several hundred people from immigrant detention facilities around the country this week.
...
Gillian Christensen, ICE’s deputy press secretary, issued this statement: “As fiscal uncertainty remains over the continuing resolution and possible sequestration, ICE has reviewed its detained population to ensure detention levels stay within ICE’s current budget.’’

Consequently, the statement goes on to say, ICE reviewed “several hundred cases” resulting in people being placed “on methods of supervision less costly than detention.”

How do you see sequestration affecting you and those you know? Is your church ready to help? Is your job one that will be cut?

I work for a non-profit company that runs stores in National Parks. We have a huge "National Park Pavilion" at the Tucson Festival of Books next weekend. There have been major restrictions in National Park Service travel restrictions that are already in place, but as of Friday, all travel (even locally) has been cancelled, meaning we may have a National Parks Pavilion with no National Parks!
