I've just finished reading Fr. James Martin's lively memoir "My Life with the Saints," and found this video compelling. Happy Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi!

IMO, one of the most misunderstood saints in the calendar.

He is so covered with idealized, folk-hagiography that he might as well be an old growth hickory forest in the Ozarks completely covered with kudzu.

A serious study of his life is a fascinating practice. I would suggest the recent bio by Adrian House as a starter.
