A new appointment

Interesting Title.

"and Discipline"?

Is that like "If you don't behave, young man, I'm going to pull this liturgy over and spank you"?

I'm still waiting for the staff officers of "turn the other cheek" and "Forgive us as we forgive others". I'm guessing we'll see those soon.

Congratulations to Mary for her new appointment. Hardly suprising for someone who can learn Gesualdo with a pitch-pipe.

I feel better for the Church already.

(and Huw, it just might help!)

Now, now. Let's be grownups here.

Discipline in this context merely means order. Our Wesleyan friends aren't a disciplinary sect just because they're governed by "The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church."

Whether one forgives a person for attempting to take one's property does not necessarily bear on the question of whether one goes to court to get one's property back. It is possible to say simultaneously: no hard feelings, now give that back. It is also possible to say simultaneously: go with God, but stop trying to exercise authority in a church to which you have publicly stated you no longer belong. If the arguments made by Duncan and Iker (that they are still the bishops of the Episcopal dioceses of Pbrgh and Fort Worth even though they are no longer by their own admission members of the Episcopal Church) don't make clear the need to depose people strictly for the sake of clarity, I don't know what does.

In case I wasn't clear -

It was a *spanking* that might help some people.

I'm proud of Mary and hope she remembers me.
