St. Nicholas on Christmas morning

Update: The Anglican Scotist

Father Jake points us to developments at St. Nicholas in Atwater, Calif., a mission in the Diocese of San Joaquin (previous coverage here), that transpired on Christmas morning:

The following email was received by St. Nicholas Episcopal Church on Christmas morning:

Dear Jo and Deacon Buck,

The attached document is the letter notifying Fr. Risard that his deployment at St. Nicholas is now over. We wish you to know that the Bishop and the Diocese are fully behind the continuation of your church in Atwater and will do all that we are able to support you during this transition.

It will not be long until we will have to add another commemoration to Lesser Feasts and Fasts: "The Martyrs of San Joaquin". Father Risard will not be the last!

And will the rest of us just stand by and watch these martyrdoms as they begin to collect? Can we not pray, write, visit, encourage, support, donate -- even pay for their stipends? When it is over will we be accused of doing nothing for our brothers and sisters in terrible distress?

And the icon for the Feast Day will be a lump of coal in St. Nicholas' stocking!

What a travesty!

Besides its complete lack of charity, this act ignores a fundamental fact. St. Nick's is a mission of the EPISCOPAL Diocese of SJ. Bishop Schofield has NO AUTHORITY here.
