Bishop of Lewes defends his "January 1939" equation

BBC,

The Bishop of Lewes, the Rt Rev Wallace Benn, says the row over the ordination of women bishops in the Church of England has meant that traditionalists are in a similar situation to that of Britain in January 1939 when the country was on the brink of war with Germany. Bishop Wallace explains his comments.

He defends his statement here, and says he never referred to Hitler or the Nazis. As the BBC interviewer points out, he didn't need to. On January 30, 1939, speaking before the Nazi Reichstag (Parliament), Hitler threatened Jews with annihilation.

More about the bishop's statement here.

Holy hyperbole and dissemblance, Batman! When one starts making inane, incongruous and over-the-top comparisons like that, it's time to retreat into a quiet corner and pray repeatedly: "Set a guard at my mouth, Lord; keep watch at the door of my lips" (Psalm 141:3).
