Episcopal school embraces iPad
Schools in Knoxville, Tenn., purchased iPads over the summer and are letting their students try to them out, Allison Rupp reports on knoxnews.com. Among such institutions: Episcopal School of Knoxville.
The 20 iPads at Episcopal School of Knoxville are for only kindergartners and first-graders, said Julie King, technology coordinator."In kindergarten, they are just not ready for a full-size keyboard with their little hands," King said. "iPads are perfect."
To protect the $500 machines, King uses military-grade casing.
"It's tested in the Middle East, in a military environment," King said. "We're testing it on the kindergarten environment. We'll see what's tougher."
The kids have a variety of educational games that help them add, spell, build rocket ships and trace letters.
