Waldo wins in Upper South Carolina

The Rev. W. Andrew Waldo has been elected Bishop of the Diocese of Upper South Carolina on the second ballot. He is the rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Excelsior, Minn.

The results are here. Some reports may say Waldo was elected on the third ballot, A first ballot was declared invald.

He engaged in an interesting blog conversation at Sacraments Wholesale during the election.

Hmmm...our diocese (MN) up here on the frozen tundra is now sending two priests to become bishops. Cool.

One more vote cast than voters present on the first ballot. The ballot was declared invalid but the vote was announced by Bishop Henderson.

Yes, Roger. Do you know if he announced the results before or after the voting on the next ballot (which became, officially, the first ballot)? It interests me to know whether voters had that information before voting.

He announced it immediately, before the second ballot was taken, so that, he said (though I quote from memory, not precisely) the delegates could get a sense of how the wind was blowing. So yes, they knew the result of the invalid first vote before they proceeded to vote a second time.

John:

As I recall sitting in the visitor's gallery, Bishop Henderson did announce the results of the invalid ballot before moving on to the second one. So yes, the delegates and clergy did have that information before moving to Round 2 of voting.

Well, I guess that question of the bishop-elect's location has finally been definitely answered...
