Tutu blesses Douglas consecration

In Hartford yesterday, archbishop emeritus Desmond Tutu helped mark the consecration of The Rev. Ian Douglas as bishop of the Diocese of Connecticut.

Tutu was homilist for the event and noted,

"God said, 'I will draw ALL people to be held in this unbreakable embrace that won't let us go' .... Ian, please tell the children of God that each one of them is precious. Each one of them is held in this public embrace, each one of them is a member of God's family."

....

"We don't choose who is going to be my brother or my sister — though I wish I could... They are God's gift to me, as I am God's gift to them."

Bishop Tutu is such a gift to humanity. How can we harness that joy and kindness and redistribute it?

Here is the sermon.
