San Diego authorizes same sex blessings
LINKS UPDATED
St. Paul's Cathedral in the San Diego, CA reports on their participation in San Diego's Pride weekend with news that Bishop James Mathes has authorized clergy to perform blessing of unions for same sex couples.
...the most amazing point of the weekend was the Rev. Allisyn Thomas announcing during her sermon that, with the approval of Bishop Mathes, the Cathedral would start the process to bless same sex couples. This is a huge and brave step that will mean much to many, and I think will enrich our community.

Hallelujah. This is the cathedral that brought my wife into the Episcopal Church. We often worship there when we visit my parents in San Diego. It is a wonderful place.

At last, a parish with an active blog! A little storytelling, lots of expandable photos and comments available for anyone who cares to join in!
This is what we all need: multi-way communication, not just "the official story of our church" on a one-way website.

Yes, St. Paul's San Diego is a fantastic place and I consider it my 2nd church home. I sure wish our cathedral were like it! Glad to hear this. It is unfortunate that I am in the Diocese of Arizona which is slow to catch up in almost all respects. Perhaps our heat makes us lazy here? Congratulations to the Diocese of San Diego!

In fact, every parish in the Diocese can be authorized for same sex blessings once the leadership and people walk through a process outlined by the Bishop.
The Study document, "Holiness in Relationships..." can be obtained from the Diocese at edsd.org. It is a great resource, though I am sure many other Dioceses have produced their own version.
