Nerva Cot Aguilera, suffragan bishop of Cuba, dead at 71

Word comes through Facebook that Cuban Bishop Suffragan Nerva Cot Aguilera has died, with funeral scheduled to take place tomorrow.

The first female bishop in Latin America, Aguilera was married to Rev. Juan Ramon de la Paz, dean of the cathedral in Havana.

Here she speaks, among other things, about her hope for the unity of the church.

Please feel free to leave remembrances and prayers.

May light perpetual shine on her.

I remember well doing this interview, and how happy we all were for +Nerva and the church in Cuba that day. Aun en la tumba elevamos nuestro canto: ¡Aleluya, aleluya, aleluya! Recíbela en la gloriosa comunión de los santos en luz.

Sometimes it's harder to say goodbye to lovely people who genuinely wish the best for everyone...this is one of those times.

Hasta la vista dear Bishop Nerva...la paz
