6. Messy church adviser sought. "This post has a genuine occupational requirement and therefore has an exemption under the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003."

If I ever write and publish a book, and Stephen Colbert invites me to be on his show, please remind me to say, "No, thank you."
On the other hand, Mr. Prothero's book sounds interesting (if, I suspect, not very profound), so I guess it was in his interest as an author.

I'm sorry but your first comment is incorrect.
The Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003 (which will be replaced by the Equality Act 2010 quite soon, probably in October) are about situations where
"being of a particular religion or belief is a genuine occupational requirement for the job"
see quote in context at
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2003/20031660.htm#7
so in this case the Diocese of Lichfield is saying that it requires the person appointed to be either a Christian (generic) or perhaps specifically an Anglican. Examination of the PDF file describing the job doesn't make clear which of these it is.
[Thanks, Simon. Duly noted in post.]

Bill, if book sales were your object, you could do a lot worse than go on Colbert.
