Griswold wore mitre at Southwark
Ordinarily it would not be news that in 2006 the Most Rev. Frank Griswold, then presiding bishop of The Episcopal Church USA wore his mitre at Southwark Cathedral. But these are not ordinary times.
In 2010 the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori was told by Lambath Palace not to cover her hair at Southwark (picture here).
H/T Neel Smith.
In 2005 Thinking Anglicans posted an item on gender and discrimination from the Q&A session of CoE General Synod. This statement by Professor David McClean, Chairman of the Legal Advisory Commission, caught my eye:
As I reported to the Synod in answer to Questions last July, the Commission has considered the effect in England of acts of women bishops of other provinces of the Anglican Communion. Its Opinion is available on the Church of England website.Emphasis added. Go to TA's post for further links.Provided that the various acts of ordination and consecration in Mrs Rees’s question all took place in Provinces of the Anglican Communion outside the British Isles, the case she describes is a variant of those in paragraph 29 of the Opinion. It comes within the principle set out in the Opinion, that the validity of ordinations is a matter of the canon law of the Province in which they take place. Assuming the ordinations are valid on that basis, those ordained in the circumstances Mrs Rees describes could apply for permission under the [Overseas and Other Clergy (Ministry and Ordination) Measure 1967 ]. Whether permission is granted is a matter for the Archbishop’s discretion.

When Katharine visited Salisbury in 2008, she preached and...wore a mitre.
There are pictures to prove it.
See it here.

So a male TEC PB has been mitre'd at Southwark in 2006. Was he presider at that service (I see he had on a chasuble)? Preacher?
And a female TEC PB has been mitre'd in C of E territory (Sarum). What was her role in that service? Preacher? Presider? Cloud of witnesses?
Do we know of any female TEC bishop who has been mitre'd at Southwark? In what liturgical role? How long ago?
Do we know of any other TEC bishops of any gender who have been "asked" not to be mitre'd in C of E territory? Recently?
My theory is that it's another manifestation of TEC's marginalization by C of E / Rowan and his minions. But we need more data to confirm or disconfirm. Anybody know?

Sarum, 2008: I see. Preacher, not presider, at Eucharist and later at Evensong.

Someone whistle "The World Turned Upside Down" while texting Lambeth Palace that the war ended in 1781. Colonists 1, British 0.

As much as I would like to take credit for discovering the photo of Griswold in a mitre at Southwark Cathedral, that was the work of another. Methinks you got "Neil Willard" a little confused with "Neel Smith" with respect to the H/T in the article above!
[Corrected. Thanks Neil. - JBC]

+Dorsey Henderson (Upper South Carolina) always wore a purple beanie with his mitre. I wonder if KJS has a beanie and if ABC would have approved.

So she carried it folded and under her arm. Not near the protest I imagined. I doubt most folks even noticed.

Although I generally agree with the criticisms of the Archbishop's actions, in that they seem to belie a certain pettiness, I do note that the statement from Professor McClean is a bit misleading as quoted. The question being answered has to do with clergy "ordained by male bishops who were themselves ordained to the priesthood by female bishops." It does not address the question of whether an overseas female bishop may exercise her episcopal function in the CoE. If you follow the link from the Thinking Anglicans article to the legal opinion itself, you will find (in Section 18) that with regard to "the performance by a woman overseas bishop of episcopal functions in England" it states that "the Archbishop could not grant permission," based upon the fact that women cannot presently be bishops in England. So if wearing a mitre is the performance of an episcopal function, then the Archbishop appears to be in accord with this legal opinion.

"So if wearing a mitre is the performance of an episcopal function, then the Archbishop appears to be in accord with this legal opinion."
Yes, Bill. It is that silly. As said elsewhere. Wearing a mitre is not the performance of an episcopal function.
And that sad. Under this legal opinion could an irregularly consecrated male bishop perform confirmations in the UK? What about deposed TEC bishops like Duncan?

John: "What about deposed TEC bishops like Duncan?" Well, certainly not as Archbishop of ACNA, but as a bishop of The Southern Cone, possibly yes. It would certainly be a big mistake for the ABC to grant him such permission, however, since that would seem to be an endorsement of the Southern Cone's border crossing.

Jefferts-Schori is a Primate equal to Rowan Williams. Am disappointed in her that she did nto ignore him and wear her miter, though not the plain one she is carrying but the one she wore at her installation at The Cathedral Church of Sts Peter and Paul, Washington, DC. Giving into these slights only reinforces William's sense of entitlement. Will we never learn.
