ABC welcomes South African bishops letter

Without further comment or elaboration, the Archbishop of Canterbury yesterday "welcomed" the letter written by South Africa's bishops.

The Archbishop of Canterbury welcomes the statement made by the Anglican Bishops in Southern Africa regarding the sentencing of Stephen Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga to 14 years of hard labour.

He welcomed the statement from South Africa by denying the churches that actually support gay people. And my appreciation for the ABC drops another point.

"Welcomes" the letter? That's a weasel word, if I ever heard one.

What is helpful here is as with the more gracious approach of several bishops of Central Africa, Bp Senyonjo, and these bishops is putting the lie that Africa is a monolithic reality in relation to lgbt Anglicans. Rowan Williams continues to write and speak as if there is a monolithic Africa and a monolithic Anglicanism that simply does not fit reality, and uses this non-reality to promote an ecclesiology that is not sufficiently Anglican in our regard for all orders of ministry--i.e., the laity, in consultative, collaborative processes.

The failure to deal squarely with clear human rights violations and indeed in places promotion of those violations by Anglican prelates makes this Communion complicit wherever a clear "no" is not offered.

Saying "No" either to his latest musing on consecration of a lesbian bishop or to those who violate others' humanity should not require break in relationship. That it seems to do so in Rowan's calculation is a part of our current dysfunction and reveals a deficient christology in so far as it suggests we make the Church rather than are recipients, gifts to, one another by Christ's choosing--not our own.

Well that was certainly forceful and a stunning example of moral teaching! Not.

He can thunder so when a lesbian is recognized as having gifts of leadership he might well envy but all we get is 'welcoming' a letter from another church where clear violations of human rights are involved.

Shame!

BRAVO, MORAL LEADERSHIP at the Anglican Communion!

Reasonable Anglican Bishops/religious people speaking their minds! Quietly, yet strongly, requesting the proper fair treatment and justice for LGBT human beings as they are living in nest of ignorant persecution.

Simultaneously the Archbishop of Caterbury WELCOMES the LETTER yet plots/yammers on-and-on about another form of punishment that will come to Anglican Provinces. Provinces who WELCOME the ¨feared and despised¨ at all levels of Anglicanlife.

Threats, threats and more threats from a cowardly voice.

The REAL bonafide ¨bloodletting¨ of LGBT Anglican hated is never a topic Dr. Williams discusses openly or acknowledges...for +Rowan it seems to be ONLY about how one chooses to embrace, or hopefully not, LGBT religious people at Church.

+Rowans lack of compassion and lack of personal energy used to respect and SAVE the REAL LIVES of LGBT Anglican ¨others¨ is reminicent of the out-of-touch behavior of Marie Antionette.
