ABC statement on David Kato's murder
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, who is currently in Dublin for the Primates' meeting, has made the following statement regarding the murder of the gay human rights activist David Kato Kisulle in Uganda:
"The brutal murder of David Kato Kisule, a gay human rights activist, is profoundly shocking. Our prayers and deep sympathy go out for his family and friends - and for all who live in fear for their lives. Whatever the precise circumstances of his death, which have yet to be determined, we know that David Kato Kisule lived under the threat of violence and death. No one should have to live in such fear because of the bigotry of others. Such violence has been consistently condemned by the Anglican Communion worldwide. This event also makes it all the more urgent for the British Government to secure the safety of LGBT asylum seekers in the UK. This is a moment to take very serious stock and to address those attitudes of mind which endanger the lives of men and women belonging to sexual minorities."
We await a statement from Archbishop Henry Orombi of Uganda.

Such violence has been consistently condemned by the Anglican Communion worldwide.
I wish.

Ditto @Simon.
With mushy words, perhaps, but not with any conviction.

Are you kidding me? This man as much as admitted not long ago that even his own words have been perceived as problematic to lgbt persons. We have known about this sort of violence egged on by Anglican leaders for years, years. I sent him a letter as a seminarian not long after his his response to Bp Gene Robinson warning of this sort of thing should the rhetoric continue in the direction the Communion was taking.
The truth is the Anglican Communion and many of its leaders have not spoken up against violence toward lgbt persons and no amount of Lambeth or ACC resolutions can smother over localized rhetoric of violence by Anglican leadership. Still this Communion is not ready to repent, that is, turn to Christ and see us through Him.

It's hard to take seriously the comments of a man who has lost all credibility when it comes to inclusivity.

Let´s see where to begin--Did the Anglcian Communion or ++Rowan Williams ¨condemn¨ violence/murder directed toward LGBTI Anglicans:
·At The ACC Meeting in LGBTI Blood drenched Jamaica?
·In Honduras after recent multi LGBTI grisly murders?
·During the Lambeth Conference as Michael Causer was attack then died in Liverpool DURING the conference?
·At the ALL African Anglican Bishops Meeting last August in Entebbe, Uganda?
Only a few of the monumental tragendies that happen in OUR everday Anglican lives have been ignored by Rowan Williams and Primates--who think/say they hold Lambeth 1.10 as a standard for righteous ¨being¨. Heck, these men, and they mostly are men, don´t even know what the subjects are!
THOU SHALT NOT KILL!
THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR!
THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS!
THOU SHALT NOT STEAL!
THOU SHALT NOT COVET!
(just a start to begin to get a grip on reality at The Anglican Communion)

Here is the position of the Primates in their Feb 2005 Dromantine Statement, paragraph 6:
"We also wish to make it quite clear that in our discussion and assessment of the moral appropriateness of specific human behaviours, we continue unreservedly to be committed to the pastoral support and care of homosexual people. The victimisation or diminishment of human beings whose affections happen to be ordered towards people of the same sex is anathema to us. We assure homosexual people that they are children of God, loved and valued by him, and deserving of the best we can give of pastoral care and friendship." The whole communique is here.

By the Dar Es Salaam statement in 2007 they seem to have forgotten this and they have certainly held no one accountable for ramping up the victimization of the glbt community.
Since 2006 the position of TEC has been in opposition to the criminalization of homosexuality through resolution D005.
The killing of Mr Kato is one of those extra judicial murders condemned by the UN that the US and others had to fight to insure that it covered the glbt community.
Since the absent Primates are the ones who largely ignore the Dromantine statement or actually abet the murder of gay activists and advocates, how about having those primates present reaffirm Dromantine's anathemazation?
Don't hold your breath.
