Queen opens General Synod
The Church of England will begin its General Synod today (Tuesday). #synod is the hashtag for Twitter for those who want to follow along. The Queen will conduct the opening session festivities. According to General Synod blog
[Today] starts with the Inauguration Service in Westminster Abbey at 10:40am, followed by the Queen's speech (and briefly one each by the two Archbishops) before lunch. The afternoon kicks of with the Presidential Address from Archbishop Rowan, and then a debate on the Big Society. Outline agenda is available here; and all other papers and agenda here.
The Covenant will probably be discussed and voted on Wednesday. Here is a little video of the sort of discussion that has been conducted to date:
A Fictional Argument about the Anglican Covenant

Will she be allowed to wear her crown, or just carry it in?

The video with this posting is a hoot, to be sure. And all the coverage that we are getting about the Covenant is very good.
But for the sake of God, who loved us into being and who loves us still, despite our petty disagreements, is there any chance that we could all stop arguing over how to be together and get back to preaching, teaching, living and doing the Gospel?
I don't want this Covenant. It's a disaster, pure and simple. And worse, we are spending far too much time on this. The Archbishop of Canterbury needs to bury it and get back to what's important in the world (and hint, hint: Unity isn't it).
Sorry, but I'm frustrated that this awful document is taking up so much of our time.
