The wisdom of the combat weary

The Rev. Dr. Paul Zahl, new rector of All Saints Church in Chevy Chase, Md., was once a partisan in the struggle for the control of the Episcopal Church. No more. In his installation sermon, "Love Among the Ruins: A Vision for Our Future," he draws on the lyrics of Crosby, Stills and Nash and Brian Wilson (Midnight's Another Day) before concluding that the only way forward lies in "walking away from anything else but the question: What is love?"

Thanks for posting this link.

This is a profound, and profoundly helpful, addition to the current 'debate' - and perhaps the most hopeful, least partisan I've seen for some time. As a Scottish Episcopalian, a "tradional Catholic" if we need labels - and one who happens to be gay - I am deeply concerned that your "current unpleasantness" has been used as a Trojan Horse to important a militant and simplistic Calvinism into mainstream Anglicanism which, whatever it may be, has never been a dogmatic Protestant denomination. Think of what happened, historically, to the Scottish Episcopalians, or why the BCP was banned in England (along with singing and dancing).

Many thanks for linking this thought-provoking sermon! I will listen again and think good thoughts.

Pax vobiscum
