Communications director appointed bishop

Thinking Anglicans has a statement from the Church of Nigeria in which the director of communications, the Venerable Akintunde Popoola (or AkinTunde, both spellings are used in the church's press release), is appointed bishop. The statement is signed by the director of communications.

Read it here.

Popoola has made frequent appearances on these pages.

Tunde is the one who said Davis MacIyalla's Changing Attitudes (Nigeria) organization didn't exist, only to have a story about one of its meeting appear in The New York Times days later. His attempts to smear Davis have been vicious, but, thankfully, inept.

He's also responsible for the Church of Nigeria's non-response to Eliza Griswold's article in The Atlantic magazine in which she reported that Archbishop Peter Akinola was president of the Christian Association of Nigeria when a gang of men associated with CAN preciptiated a retributive massacre against Muslims in the town of Yelwa that led to as many as 700 deaths.

So this is a great day for the Anglican Communion.
