Better never than late

The Anglican Communion Office has at last responded to a letter that the Rev. Lesley Fellows of the No Anglican Covenant Coalition sent to the Archbishop of Canterbury more than two months ago--if you can call a perfunctory reiteration of evasive boilerplate a response.

The failure of the Rev. Canon Joanna Udal, the Archbishop's Secretary for Anglican Communion Affairs, to address the Rev. Fellows' concerns is disrespectful, and the archbishop's repeated assertions that the proposed Covenant will not result in a greater centralization of authority within the Anglican Communion indicates that he is unwilling to debate the document in any serious way.

We need to have that debate without him. The question is whether it will make any difference.

The response is a polite form of stonewalling.
