Okoh wants Nigeria out of UN

From PANA, the Panafrican News Agency: Archbishop Nicholas Okoh, Primate of the Anglican Communion Church in Nigeria, suggests Nigeria should withdraw from the United Nations over matters of homosexuality.

Okoh, head of the about 25 million members strong Protestant movement, at a National Conference on Human Rights organized by the Anglican Communion, decried the role UN human rights bodies were playing in the fight for two Malawian boys who got married as homosexuals.

The Primate said in Abuja that “if the UN is now an organ for the advancement of homosexual lifestyle, it is time Nigeria pulled out of that organization, in order to protect the moral health of the nation.”

Okoh, stated that “Nigeria should not condescend themselves into being a party to such immoral act. If the United Nations make themselves an agent to promote gay marriages, then Nigeria should pull out from such organization.”

I had not heard of this Conference on Human Rights organized by the Anglican Communion. But then I realized that it was a National conference, meaning a Nigerian conference, actually organized by the Nigerian province of the AC, not the AC.

The Lion of Nigeria has now caused much confusion within his own nation's press from having pressed the idea to change his church's name during his archiepiscopate!

Nigeria's real problem is poverty and the government's contribution to that problem as Okoh himself was saying again just the other day:

It's a foolish leader who doesn't stay on topic. Raising the UN/homosexuality issue creates just the sideshow the government needs to escape accountability.

I assume I'm wrong on this, but sometimes I get the impression that the Church of Nigeria is a one-issue organization.

Either the only thing they ever talk about is homosexuality, or it's the only thing that gets reported that they talk about.
