VOA

Voice of America has this article on the anti-gay legislation under consideration in Nigeria. Davis Mac-Iyalla of Changing Attitude-Nigeria has apparently fled the country and is now in Togo. (Hat tip to Andrew in Montreal.)

Ruth Gledhill has also joined the chorus opposing the bill.

I have written five letters over the past two weeks to the Archbishops of Canterbury and Nigeria concerning this bill. Today, I received my first response, from Archbishop Akinola's Communications Director, Canon AkinTunde Popoola. It is reproduced below. In essence, Canon Popoola says that he and his archbishop are just too busy to respond.

This speaks volumes about the Nigerian Church and its supporters.

Dear Dr.,

Peace!

Thanks for your mail below which I just saw today. Forgive the time lag. We
have been very busy lately in the office because of the activities around
the landmark consecration of 20 bishops in one service held here in Abuja
and the subsequent inauguration of 19 dioceses around our vast country.

Your message will be forwarded to the archbishop's desk, though I doubt his
seeing it before the end of the month when he is expected to have completed
his missionary diocese trips and returned to the office.

Every Blessing,

The Rev. Canon Akintunde Popoola.
